En este artículo se da cuenta de los afanes y esfuerzos de los misioneros ingleses entre los aborígenes del extremo austral de la Tierra del Fuego (1888-1917). Se consideran las actividades desarrolladas y los acontecimientos en los sucesivos establecimientos misionales (Bayly. Tekenika y Río Douglas). Se evalúa su resultado y se analizan las implicaciones y consecuencias de la acción misionera en la decadencia de la etnia yámana. Se ofrece finalmente un panorama sobre la situación
postmisional de los indígenas hasta su virtualmente completa mestización al concluir el siglo XX.
The desires and efforts of the English missionaries among the Indians of suthernmost Tierra del Fuego (1888-1917) are informed. The activities developed and the events in the successive mission settlements (Bayly, Tekenika and Río Douglas) are considered. Its result is assessed and the implications and consequences of the missionary action in the decline of the Yámana group are analyzed. A picture of the post-mission situation of the Indians until its virtually complete crossbreeding at the end of XXth century is offered.
