La inmigración europea en Magallanes conforma un hecho de relevancia en la historia del territorio. La misma se registró entre 1870 y 1930, aproximadamente, y resultó fundamental para la formación de la sociedad regional y el inicio y desarrollo de la economía. En este estudio se entregan antecedentes referidos a uno de los grupos étnicos aportantes más numerosos, gallegos y asturianos; se analiza su composición bajo distintos aspectos (época de arribo, número, sexo, edad, ocupación, procedencia regional original). Se considera, asimismo, el fenómeno de la reemigración para determinar la radicación definitiva de los inmigrantes, en cuanto se refiere a su cuantía. Por fin, y para ponderar su importancia, se entrega una breve consideración sobre las consecuencias sociales y económicas de la migración en el territorio magallánico.
European inmigration represents a relevant fact in the territory's history. It was registered between approximately 1870 and 1930, and it was fundamental for the regional society and the beginning and development of the economy. In this study antecedents refered to one of the most numerous apportant groups, Galicians and Asturians, are given. Its composition under different aspects (time of arrival, number, sex, age, occupation, and regional original procedence) are analyzed. The reemigration phenomenon, in order to determine the definitive settlement of the inmigrants in relation with their numbers, is also considered. Lastly, and to ponder its importance, a brief consideration on the social and economic consequences of migration in the Magellanic territory, is given.
