El artículo busca rememorar la figura histórica del distinguido marino e hidrógrafo inglés comandante Phillip Parker King. Se entregan antecedentes biográficos y se da cuenta de los principales hechos acontecidos durante la expedición hidrográfica realizada entre 1826 y 1830 a la parte austral de América, bajo su comando, y por encargo del Almirantazgo Británico. El importante resultado náutico y científico de esta memorable empresa debe ser acreditado a la responsable conducción del comandante King. quien se ha ganado de esa manera un lugar de mérito entre los exploradores de la Región Magallánica. Se informa asimismo sobre el hallazgo y la recuperación de los testimonios dejados por los marinos ingleses en 1830, en la cima del monte de la Cruz (Bahía Fortescue). y sobre los trabajos y estudios realizados para la identificación y conservación de parte de los restos encontrados.
This article seeks to distinguish the historie figure of the English hydrographer commander P. P. King. Biographic information is presented and shows the principal facts that occurred during the hydrographic expedition made between 1826 and 1830 to the southernmost part of America, by the British Admiralty. The nautical and scientific results of this remarkable expedition should be credited to the responsible leadership of the commander P. P. King who was gained in this form a place in the history of the magellanic explorers. Also here is presented the discovery and retrieval of a Memorial left by the British survey in 1830 in the summit of the Monte Cross (Fortescue Bay) and the subsequent analysis and preservation of the recovered remains.
