El poblamiento de la Región Magallánica se consolidó entre finales del siglo XIX y las primeras décadas del XX. Una tercera parte del incremento poblacional fue debida al crecimiento vegetativo mientras que la inmigración aportó la mayor parte restante. La estructura de la población durante este período se caracterizó por una fuerte asimetría sexual y una gran proporción de jóvenes que dio lugar a una elevada fecundidad. Los nacimientos presentan una distribución estacional debida a una mayor frecuencia estival en las concepciones. En el 80% de los nacimientos las familias eran endógamas.
The settlement of Magellanic Region in the Chilean Patagonia was consolidated between the end of 19th century and the first decades of the present century. A third of population increase was due to the natural increase where as immigration contributed with the rest. During this period population structure was characterized by a strong sexual ratio difference, and a great young people ratio caused an high fertility. Births showed a seasonal distribution originated by the highest number of summer conceptions. In the 80% of births the families were endogamous.
