Vol. 3, nº 1-2, 1972. pp. 87-96.http://hdl.handle.net/20.500.11893/249A summary review about the archaeological investigations that have been made up to the present time in the archipiélago of Chiloé (Bird, 1938; Vásquez de Acuña, 1963; Díaz and Garretón, 1971, and the unpublished Works of Kaltwasser, 1968) is given, arriving at the conclusion that the prehistory of Chiloé is still practically unknown. There exists a reference from the 18th century concerning the existence of a cave that had served as a communal tomb for the indigenous people of the región (Byron, 1968).
