Contribución de Enrique Ibar Sierra al conocimiento de la naturaleza de la patagonia oriental austral

Abstract

Se proporcionan algunos antecedentes biográficos sobre Enrique Ibar (1858-1878) y se describen los aspectos más importantes de su viaje hacia las nacientes del río Santa Cruz, en 1877, dándosele énfasis a sus aportes científicos. Se discuten los taxa vegetales descritos por Philippi a base de material colectado o atribuido a Ibar. llegándose a la conclusión que de 31 especies, 23 corresponden a sinonimia, 6 son especies válidas (una de las cuales fue cambiada posteriormente de género) y dos corresponden a nomina nuda. Este análisis permitió individualizar el material proveniente de las colecciones de Ibar, separándolo del proveniente de otros colectores. En relación a las localidades de colecta de estos taxa, se aclaran algunos errores geográficos y se indica la actual denominación de varios de ellos. Se avalúa críticamente el trabajo de Ibar y sus aportes al conocimiento científico de su época, destacándose su valor.

The basic biographic background of Enrique Ibar (1858-1878) is furnished and the most important aspects cf his expedition to the sources of the Santa Cruz river (1877) are pointed out giving special emphasis to his scientific apports. The plant taxa described by Philippi from material collected or atributed to Ibar are discussed. concluding that out of 31 species, 23 correspond to synonimy, 6 are valid species (one being posteriorly changed of genus), and two are nomina nuda. This analysis permited the individualization of the material from the collections of Ibar, separating it from that of other collectors. In relation with the localities of collection of these taxa some geographical mistakes are corrected and the present denomination of some of them is given. A critical evaluation of Ibar's work is made and his apports to the scientific knowledge in his epoch and their value are pointed out.
