Madurez Sexual en los machos de la centolla Lithodes antártica Jacquinot , del área Punta Arenas - Porvenir, estrecho de Magallanes

Abstract

Se realizó un análisis morfométrico en 930 machos y 644 hembras de la centolla, Lithodes antárctica Jacquinot, provenientes del área Punta Arenas - Porvenir, estrecho de Magallanes. La existencia de alometría en el crecimiento del largo y alto de la quela derecha indica que el tamaño promedio de madurez sexual en los machos es de aproximadamente 90 mm de longitud cefalotorácica. En las hembras no se observó alometría en ninguna de las estructuras medidas. Se comparan los resultados obtenidos con estudios anteriores y se discute su implicancia en relación con el tamaño mínimo legal para los machos de la especie.

A morphometric analysis was done on 930 males and 644 females of the king crab Lithodes antárctica Jacquinot, coming from the area of Punta Arenas - Porvenir, Straits of Magellan. Allometric growth in the length and height of the right chela indicates that the average size for sexual maturity in the males is approximately 90 mm cephalothoracic length. Allometry was not demonstrated for any of the estructures measured in the females. Results were compared with those of previous studies and the significance of the findings in relation to the mínimum legal size for the males is discussed.
