Se in
New information about Felis geoffroyi leucobapta, Arctocephalus gazella, and Galictis cuja cuja in Magallanes (Región XII). Chile is presented.
It is considered that the ocurrence of Felis geoffroyi leucobapta in the Province of Magallanes, Chile, has never been presented formally in the literature previously. Additional information on size and sex, previously unpublished, is given also. The most recent (1974) specimen obtained, extends the southern range of this species in the province by 135 kilometers to 52° 45'S.
Metal tags were recorvered in Bahia Orange, Isla Hoste (55° 30'S; 68 07'W) from an individual of Arctocephalus gazella that had been tagged on the South Georgia Islands(54° OO'S; 38° 02'W). This find is apparently the first demostrating such a notable westward extensión of this species. Until more individuals of A. gazella are found from the province its ocurrence is considered accidental. The presence of Galictis cuja cuja (Quique), is reported for the first time in the province of Magallanes, Chile, on the basis of two specimens. Based upon the previously known limits of this species this represents an extensión of more than 1.000 Km. south. Photograhs of the uppers and lower jaws of one of the specimen, plus measurements of bodies and craniums are given for both specimens.
