| es_ES |
dc.description.abstract | Results of avian censuses made at the begining of summer during two consecutive years ( 1994- 1995) in a portion of lenga forest. Nothofagus pumilio (Poeppig & Endl.) from the area of Penitente in the continental side of the Magallanes province (XII Region, Chile) are reported. The main objective of the study was to compare the avian assemblages between one exploited and one unexploited forest. The formulated hypothesis was that the clearing of Ihe intervened forest should result in higher richness and specific diversity for birds. Censuses followed the point count method, divided in standard time periods. Parametric and non parametric statistics of census results from both years showed no significant differences (p > 0.05) between Shannon's diversity indices for each kind of forest and therefore our hypothesis was rejected. Then, as far as birds are concerned, forest intervention by means of shellerwood method does not apparently affect them. Nevertheless, due to changes in terms of community structure from one year to the other, monitoring follow up studies are suggested. | es_ES |
