The physical, chemical and biological features of río Pérez, a lolic system located on the eastern side of the Magellan's Strait were determinined by measuring different abiotic and biotic parameters. Regarding these results and their temporal variability, it was possible to define this river as a rhitronic type. Through the year, waters show a continous oversaturation in oxigen levels and temperature fluctuations are ranged between 0.5°C (July) and 12.6°C (January). In a similar way, nutrients such as phosphates, nitrites and nitrates showed critical changes during the same period of time. Likewise, the maximum and minimum for the registered streamflow values were consistently observed during springtime (November) and winter time (June and July). All this changes are indicative of an strong seasonal dependence of the river's water flow rate. On the other hand, the physical and chemical features of the river did not show any significant disturbance,
which could have been related to pollution events or modification in the water flow rate regime. The biological analysis performed related to the distribution and abundance of macrozoobenthos showed that these organisms occur in a very low numerical and biomass abundance over the whole year and the maximum values are observed in the summer time. Finally, the annual macrobenthic production turned out to be low. In this way, by examining the water's quality of río Pérez, it is possible to define this environment
as suitable for the development of salmonid species. However, from a biotic perspective, the occurring resource is not capable to sustain carnivorous populations, which are trophically considered as highly efficient.
