dc.description.abstract | Cetacean sightings made in the Exclusive Economic Zone of Chile between 13 and 21 February 1994 as part of the 16th International Whaling Commission/Intemational Decade of Cetacean Research (IWC/IDCR) sighting cruise, are reported. Two research vessels participated in the survey, which covered 1,057 n. miles for 92.24 hours under sighting effort. Six researchers from six nations, participated in the survey. The species sighted were the sei whale, minke whale, sperm whale, southern bottlenose whale, killer whale, pilot whale, hourglass dolphin, common dolphin, southern right whale dolphin. Risso's dolphin and the bottlenose dolphin. All of these species have been previously reported for Chilean waters. A notable feature of the survey reported here was the large number of sei whales observed within a relatively small latitudinal range (53°S-55°S). This pattern of distribution is similar to that found in previous surveys conducted in summer in southern Chile. | es_ES |
| es_ES |
