The maritime-terrestrial zone which is located in the central region of Tierra del Fuego (between the southern region of Bahia Inutil and the initial section of the Almirantazgo Fjord) was one of the border areas of contact
among the Kaweskar (sea hunters) and Selknam (land hunters) before colonization in this area. This article, which is based on a variety of cultural, historical and anthropological data, claims the existence of a new interethnic cross breeding in the Magellan Region: The Selkkar, who came about as a result of the extensive contact between the two afore mentioned ethnic groups.
